Unfolding Communications is a marketing and public relations firm founded in 2003 in Mamaroneck, New York. We are now headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska and serve clients nationally.

Owner and principal Linda Stephen has more than 15 years of public relations and event planning experience on five continents for book and magazine publishers, multinational corporations, Fortune 500s, authors, conferences, artists, manufacturers, United Nations agencies, and nonprofits. 

She is a strategic planner with an eye for detail and the flexibility to capture new possibilities. A former teacher, coach and manufacturing manager, Stephen communicates clearly and effectively with team members and external audiences. 

Her media relations work has garnered thousands of positive features for her clients in top media such as The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Time, The Chicago Tribune, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, CNN, NPR, BBC, NHK, and The New York Times.

She is fluent in Japanese and holds an M.A. in international journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. A former university cross-country running team captain with a 2nd degree black belt in Shorinji Kempo, Stephen is willing to go the distance for her clients.  


Linda Stephen is an active leader in her community of Lincoln, Nebraska, volunteering more than 300 hours a year. Her service includes Seniors Foundation Board of Directors (Keystone Award event committee and marketing committee - supporting special projects for Aging Partners), Boy Scouts Troop 25 merit badge counselor and Roundtable representative, Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska artVenture, Lincoln Artists Guild (past publicity chair), Lincoln Public Schools (past writing tutor, artist in residence, PTO, Gifted rep), Mayor's Environmental Task Force (transportation committee), and more. 

As an award-winning visual artist with artworks in public and private collections around the world, Stephen presents workshops across the country on Japanese paper arts, origami paper folding, Japanese culture, and publicity for artists. See a gallery here
